MSC's Guides To Postseason Care - Snowboards & Bindings

How to Care for your Snowboards & Bindings During the Summer.

When it comes to storing your snowboard for the off-season, there are a few things to keep in mind. Unlike holiday decorations, you can't just toss your snowboard into a box and forget about it. Luckily, we're here to help! By taking the right steps, you can ensure that your board and bindings lasts longer, which means more seasons on the slopes and more money for lift tickets!

The most important thing to remember is to ensure your board is clean, dry and waxed before putting it away. Additionally, you should follow a few key steps to ensure your snowboard is appropriately stored.

  1. Unmount Bindings
  2. Clean
  3. Tune & Wax
  4. Store

1: Unmount the Bindings

Removing the bindings is the first step in preparing a snowboard for off-season storage. Removing your bindings (and leaving them off during Storage) provides a few key benefits.

  • It is much easier to clean your snowboard and bindings.
  • You can thoroughly inspect your bindings and check for any damage or signs of wear that might impact performance next season.
  • Also, leaving the bindings off relieves tension on the mounting hardware.

Pro tip: Put your binding hardware in a small bag and tape it to the board when you're done so nothing important gets lost.

2: Clean the Snowboard and Bindings

Wipe down the snowboard and the bindings using a mild household cleaner (like dish soap), warm water, and a cloth or rag. Pay close attention to the top sheet and inserts.

After cleaning the board and bindings thoroughly, grab a dry rag and wipe everything down again to ensure no moisture is left behind. It's essential to make sure everything is completely dry before storing!

3: Tune & Waxing for Storage

Tuning a snowboard before placing it into long-term Storage is an important step that can improve longevity. The good news is that tuning a snowboard for Storage is fairly straightforward.

4: Storing Your Snowboard

In general, snowboards and bindings should be stored out of direct sunlight in a cool, dry place when not in use for more than three months. Avoid locations that can get extremely hot (30+ degrees) or receive extended periods of direct sunlight during the day. You also want to avoid places that get damp.

Pro tip: Store your gear in a dedicated snowboard bag, providing additional padding and protection. It also keeps everything together, so nothing gets lost. As a bonus, a snowboard bag helps keep dust and bugs off your gear.
