What a ride the past 30 years has been! Since we started in 1996 we've seen brands created, technology evolve, styles come and go and come back again, and an enormous number of people come to us to get sorted for their first trip, next trip, or trip of a lifetime. 

30 years ago we were in a different location, with a smaller team, a smaller range, and no online store, but fast forward to 2026 and we're still as driven as ever in getting Australians into the great sport of snowboarding, and doing it by delivering the best customer service and the best range in the country.

A Brief History

Melbourne Snowboard Centre was started in 1996 by one man, our owner and leader Mick, who continues to work in the shop to this day. If Mick isn't serving on the shop floor, he's working hard behind the scenes to make sure we're doing the best we can for our customers, some of which have been with us from the start.

We began in 1996 in a shop just up the road from our current location in Preston, with only one staff member and a handful of brands. Slowly we grew and grew, one staff member became two, and 5 years later it became more, always working hard with the Australian snow industry to grow our store, our brands, and the sport, to the greater Melbourne community. Staff come and go, and a lot come back every year after doing seasons overseas, but the passion for snowboarding never goes away. It's not a prerequisite to working here, but the vast majority of our staff have multiple snow seasons under their belts, and live and breathe snowboarding. The management team alone have a collective 100+ years of snowboarding experience, and love to share their expertise with all of our customers, regardless of whether they're getting their first board or are adding another one to their quiver.

In 2010 we moved into our current home at 392 Plenty Rd, Preston. This greatly grew our floor space, and allowed us to grow our range, our staff, and the amount of people we can get sorted out for the snow. In 2026 the changes are still going, if you've visited the store this year you'll see we've built a brand new dedicated boot fitting room, where we can comfortably house more people than ever, and we now have a permanent station for making custom footbeds.

We've been voted Australia's best snowboard store for 2023, 2024, and 2025 (by the Snowsports Industry of Australia), and we don't plan on stopping.

We've been lucky enough to have riders from all over the world come and visit us in store, and leave their mark on the shop while they were here. We've had pro models, movies, and a bunch of different gear signed by pros during their visits. Some notable visits were:

Uniquely MSC

We've been part of some pretty cool programs over the years, all thanks to the incredible people and brands we partner with. Here's some highlights from the last few years:

We hosted an Art Competition with CAPiTA, judged by Arthur Longo:

In 2018 we hosted an all-girls evening with Torah Bright, where Torah did a meet and greet and an Q&A session with a big group of local riders. 

We created our own bindings with Fix Binding Co.

But arguably the best thing we've been able to do, is share snowboarding with you. We've set up countless snowboards, fit an insane number of boots, waxed an unbelievable number of bases, and will hopefully be doing it for many years to come.
